Moonshot Press is civic journalism that doesn't stop at telling you what happened. It helps people make sense of the forces shaping their lives, work through hard choices together, and find real ways to take part.

Where everything begins

Every child is born with equal worth. Whether every child has an equal opportunity to flourish depends on the conditions we create together. — Our North Star

This belief guides our initiatives, reporting, tools, and partnerships. It is not a partisan program or a finished answer. It is a standard against which public choices can be examined.

 

The largest challenges facing our communities cannot be solved by a single institution. They require informed citizens, trustworthy information, thoughtful public dialogue, responsible technology, and a shared commitment to the common good.

A free press, public discussion, peaceful assembly, and the citizen's right to petition are not isolated protections. Together, they form part of the infrastructure of self-government.

 

What we're building

Moonshot Press connects forms of civic work that are too often kept separate. Each element should make the others more useful and more accountable:

  • Understand — Public-interest journalism: reporting and public learning designed for citizens who want to understand, not simply consume information.

  • Deliberate — Citizen engagement: Citizen Briefs, People's Commissions, public questions, and structured conversations that connect learning to judgment.

  • Act — Civic innovation: practical models for participation, accountability, and citizen agency, built to be transparent, usable, and open to revision.

  • Technology — Responsible AI: digital tools that help people navigate complex systems and ask better questions, without surrendering human judgment.

  • Place — Community demonstration: work in real communities where national questions meet local conditions, relationships, institutions, and opportunities for action.

  • Evidence — Salutogenesis and human flourishing: a focus on the conditions that create health, well-being, capability, agency, and meaning.

 

The full hub — libraries, tools, and the record of what came of each inquiry — is under construction. Several parts of it are already running.

Moonshot Press's work sits under Project 2026, our flagship civic-renewal effort — not a separate outlet, but the organizing umbrella for everything below it, tied to America's 250th anniversary but not confined to it.

Technology and the American Future — Publishing weekly. The Civic Curriculum for the AI Age is a twelve-part public learning series on what artificial intelligence actually means for work, power, and human flourishing — plain language, the strongest arguments on every side, and questions built to be argued about with other people. The Head Start Citizen Deliberation — Comment period open, closing October 6. The federal government is changing the rules for Head Start, a program serving hundreds of thousands of children and families. The Moonshot Class of 2026

Policy becomes abstract quickly. The Moonshot Class returns the question to the children whose health, security, relationships, and opportunity will be shaped by decisions adults make today.

 

The National Moonshot Class of 2026 — Emma, Liam, Amare, Eva, and Mateo — illuminates different American realities and covers general early-childhood and AI-and-work questions across our initiatives. The Montco PA Moonshot Class — Grace, Jaylen, Sofia, Aiden, Amara, and Riley — is a separate, local cohort belonging to Thrive in Montco PA specifically.

These children are composites, not predictions of individual lives. They exist to keep every public question tied to a real answer: would this help create the conditions in which this child — and every child — can flourish?

Citizens, experts, and evidence in the same room

Understanding a problem and deliberating about it matter only if they lead somewhere. Our Citizen Toolbox and Citizen Lab turn reporting and Commission findings into things you can actually do: rights audits, power maps, due-process checklists, public-comment guides, and interactive tools for tracking where power actually sits.

An argument that stays on the page is just an argument. Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, is where this model gets tested with real neighbors, real institutions, and real conditions — not chosen as a showcase, but because it's America in miniature.

Our values

  • Human dignity — Every person has inherent worth, regardless of ZIP code, credential, identity, or circumstance.

  • Scientific integrity — Evidence should inform public dialogue, not be selectively used to win an argument. We distinguish evidence from judgment and acknowledge uncertainty.

  • Democratic participation — Citizens should help shape the future, not simply observe it. Participation is a practice extending beyond election day.

  • Transparency — Sources, methods, reasoning, limitations, corrections, funding, and meaningful uses of AI should be visible for scrutiny.

  • Collaboration — No institution, profession, or perspective has all the answers.

  • Curiosity and humility — We seek strong competing arguments and remain willing to revise our work when evidence or experience warrants it.

  • Hope — Not naïve optimism, but the disciplined conviction that citizens working together can improve the conditions that matter.

  • Responsibility — Technology should strengthen human judgment rather than replace it. We remain answerable for the work we publish and build.

 

Research partnership: grounded in science, built for public action

Moonshot Press works with the Institute for Salutogenesis, which studies the conditions that create health, well-being, agency, and human flourishing — not only what prevents harm. That standard runs through everything we build: is this comprehensible, is it manageable, is it meaningful?

Human flourishing is not an abstract destination. It depends on whether people can understand their world, manage its demands, find meaning, exercise agency, and participate in shaping the conditions around them.

Artificial intelligence may support research, questioning, synthesis, and drafting. Accountable human beings remain responsible for the questions asked, judgments made, material published, and corrections required. We disclose meaningful AI involvement rather than hide it.
